What does “home” taste like when you’re far from it?
From 21 to 26 June, What Art Can Do Gallery in Amsterdam presents Taste of Home, a photographic exhibition by Romanian artist and Art Director Ioana Enescu. The project explores the culinary and cultural stories of six foreigners living in Amsterdam, reflecting on themes of memory, identity, and belonging told through the language of food. Rooted in the artist’s own experience as a Romanian foreigner living in Netherlands, Taste of Home documents how individuals recreate familiar dishes to reconnect with their heritage. The project features participants from Egypt, India, Ukraine, Germany, China, and Poland, photographed during the preparation of a personal dish and interviewed about its meaning. The exhibition combines intimate portraits and light boxes – offering a moment of quiet reflection on the meaning and memory held within each plate.
